In games of Midgard your units have stamina points - typically four for an infantry unit. These are removed as part of fights and so having some way to record a loss of stamina is useful. You *can* remove models but in my last game I was struck ny how this left the exposed metal sheeting of the movement trays which looked unsightly. You can instead use dice, or micro dice (and I have done both) but I decided the time had come to take a leaf from James' book and make some actual stamina markers that would do the job unobtrusively on the battlefield.
Some of the poems of the time talk of "icy-hued" shields, so that was the inspiration. Some spare shields from the Gripping Beast plastics and some Warbases 20mm bases a little sand and some Contrat Paints white and job done.
They'll also work for other games too as either wound markers or for things like "battered" in Rampant games or Stamina in Saga.
