Dragon Rampant Campaign - The Valley of Jeff - Game Seven

As with the previous game, time and real life have taken their toll on my memory, so this film will have to do for summary.

And here are some pictures

Seven great fun games with a splendid opponent. Dragon Rampant is fun, fast and easy to understand with enough grit and chance to make it interesting and the  campaign gave enough structure without any heavy book-keeping - just what us Gamers Of A Certain Vintage like.

Dragon Rampant Campaign - The Valley of Jeff - Game Six

This game was played back in May!

Fortunately there's a video so I don't have to try and remember what happened!

I took a few pictures too

A great fun game that means we go to the last one of the campaign with either of us still able to snatch a win!

Dragon Rampant Campaign - The Valley of Jeff - Game Five

The Orcs continued their pell-mell flight down the valley before splashing across the waters of the River Jeff with the Dwarfs in hot pursuit. Turnbing once again to face their foe they determined not to let the Oakenfinger Clan cross Black Ford and enter Orc territory!

The report in video form

Having lost the last game I would be defending as the Dwarfs attempted to cross the river

I had tweaked my army (possibly more than the campaign rules allow!) and included a Bloodthirsty giant!
]

My forces were soon pushing up - the Dwarfs content to bide their time.

Once again my Orc Ladz faced Dwarfs across the rickety-rackety bridge.

The goat riders were proving annoying.

Sadly I forgot a piece of advice I'd given myself before the battle - "don't let the giant get charged".

Over on the rickety-rackety bridge the hearthguard disposed of the Orcs and set forth toward Orc territory

Followed by some of their fellows

The Orc Scouts were, at least, still alive

The Orc Shaman had formed a wall of spears

Aided by some magic the remains of the Orc boys splashed across Black Ford and charged home.

They were at half strength, charging an undamaged heavy infantry unit - the outcome was always likely to be unfavourable.

Dwarfs were pouring across the rickety-rackety bridge

With no-one left to oppose them

The boys dealt with the crossbow armed dwarfs felt able to brave the Black Ford

Preceded by the Goat Riders

the scouts were reduced to a single model as the Shaman bravely went hunting Dwarf

Defiant to the last

It was a forlorn and unlikely quest

The ford was in Dwarf hands!

Some additional phone pictures

All went very badly for my greenskins. When the giant went cheaply the numbers were always against me and Martins crossbow Dwarfs seem at last to have worked out how to shoot!

Next game will see the Orcs driven further up their side of the valley!

Dragon Rampant Campaign - The Valley of Jeff - Game Four

Fleeing back down through the Uppar Hills Gruzzkupp's once proud invasion force turn to make a stand against the invigorated Dwarfs.

A simple Bloodbath game with the Dwarf force as the attackers.

Here's a video version

Here's the analogue version

Angry Oakenfinger Clan

The field of war

Orcs in fine array

The Orcis Wizard pushed up, sending some of the more ferocious lads on ahead.

Whilst Gruizzkupp's bodyguard set about stalking their opposite numbers

More fearsome boys stormed up a hill intent on feasting on goat-meat

The Pig Riding lads spied some bears. In the woods. Where else?

the Dwarf advance was more circumspect.

Dragon's Breath enveloped the Orcs protecting them from the crossbows.

The Black Orcs taunted their foe

The first Orc charge failed to much dent the Dwarf elite.

So the Black Orcs closed the ground.

The other Boys managed to scrag a couple of Goat riders

The Boars faced off against the bears.

The Dwarfs had cleared out the first Orc threat.

The face-off continued

The Bears charged and the Orcs countercharged!

The fight went in the favour of the Bears but they then failed their courage test and ran back to...you guessed it...the woods.

The Black Orcs fell on the Dwarf hearthguard.

Bagpipe Toting Dwarfs pushed up.

The Goats were being whittled away but the Orcs couldn't bring them to ground.

The Hearthguard were pushed back by rampaging Black Orcs.

The Boar Riders changed tack and fell on the Dwarfs

Forcing them back.

The Orc wizard spent his time trying, and frequently failing, to enhance the Black Orcs.

The battered Dwarfs somehow failed to respond to the rallying cry of the bagpipes.

The Black Orcs cut down the Hearthguard and then charged in to the crossbows.

However the Bears arrived to cut down the wizard and despite the Black Orcs finally catching the last of the Goat Riders, night fell with the Dwarfs in control of the battlefield.

Another grand game of Dragon Rampant. i did *somewhat* hamper the Orc cause by failing to remember that DR now uses 30 point warbands and only taking a 24 point force!

Next battle sees us back at the river as the Dwarfs seek to push the Orcs completely from their territory!
