Dark Elf Sorceress

As a change of pace I painted up this old plastic Games Workshop Dark Elf Sorceress.

She'd been on my painting table in an undercoated state for quite a while, but as we've half a plan to do a Dark Elf warband for Song of Blades and Heroes and I keep thinking I really ought to make an effort to do a Dark Elf army for Warhammer, now seemed a good time. Base needs some foliage, but I think I need to order some "blasted grass" type stuff for a proper Naggaroth effect.
Chunky by modern Dark Elf standards and a classic example of chainmail-bikini sexism, but apart from that, quite a nice model.

Stone Troll

The ongoing purge of my painting queue brings you this.
A Citadel Stone Troll.
Fantastic, characterful model that I've had for ages.
I hesitate to say that it's actually a lead model, but under all that bluey-grey paint he might just be.

Got two more of his mates to finish off too.

Vikings for SAGA (2)

Painted another four of these and based and shielded up all eight of them. I used plastic GW shields in the end as I had some lying around.
Irritatingly the shield split on two of them (the same model each time, you'd think I'd learn) but I can't be bothered to paint up any new ones at the moment.
Next up will be either eight warriors or four beserkers, can't decide.

 Can't find a name for this one. He came with his left hand missing, so I replaced it with one from the GB plastic set.

Night Goblin Archers

Some Night Goblin Archers I've finally finished.
First on blue and then on white.
I really like these models, they're very jolly, but it's a lot of work for about sixty points.

Vikings for SAGA (1)

Some time ago I was given a unit of the old Citadel Viking models (thanks John).
They were going to be part of my WAB army or somesuch.
Anyway they sat mouldering in the lead pile for some years until I recently dug them out to see if they'd work for SAGA. There were 22 in the box, so I figured I might just squeeze a small, hearthguard heavy, force out of them.
Here are the first four. Unfortunately they came without shields and I've not got anything suitable lying around, which may necessitate a trip to Foundry as they make some that may work. The absence of shields means I've not varnished them or finished their bases either.
I've gone for quite bright colours on them as I think it suits the models, and all that Dark Age brown can get a bit depressing. I'm imagining them as well dressed wild and crazy pirate types, raping and pillaging their way up and down the Humber.

Interesting models to paint, a bit fussy in places (at least compared to the Musketeer ones) but very characterful and lovely sculpts. I was a bit worried about their voluminous pants, thinking they might be a bit of sculptors license, but James assures me that a Viking was judged by the size of his trouser (rich material being very expensive) and so they are apparently quite accurate.

The models also quite small (especially compared to Harald Hardrada) but they'll be great for my games of SAGA.

The next four are already on the painting bench and ready to go.
