Lord of the Rings Campaign - Fog on the Barrow Downs and Bree

I am very far behind with my blogging - this pair of games happened two weeks ago and I'm off over to General Ballroom's momentarily to play the next pair of games...

Anyway it was on with our ongoing MESBG campaign. This time the hobbits were blundering about in the fog...

First some pics of Gen. B.'s beautifully painted hobbits with Bombadil and Goldberry

However out on the downs the barrow guardians were stirring...

The four friends were wandering about heedless of the danger (he's behind youuuuuu!)

Pretty soon Pippin was struck down.

And the wights closed in.

Bombadil turned up pretty quickly though.

But the barrow wights started dragging Pippin toward a tomb for sacrifice.

The other hobbits did their best to fend the undead horrors off

But Pippin was fast approaching a grizzly fate

At this point only Frodo remained upright!

Pippin was put to the sword and Merry's body was dragged in the same direction.

Would Bombadil get there in time?

The fiend raised his ancient dagger...

....and cackling plunged it into the recumbent hobbit!

Victory (finally) for the forces of darkness.

A good tense game that went down to the wire.

Fortunately Bonbadil must have worked some magic as the hobbits were restored in time for the next game.

An attack on Bree by the Ringwraiths.

The Black clad horsemen smashed aside the gatekeeper

Aragorn to the rescue (and the Pub Landlord!)

Ride, Ringwraiths, ride!

The gatekeeper was out like a light!

Soon the Pub Landlord was fighting a wraith. Like a Friday night in Mansfield.

Aragaorn was set upon by two. Who promptly found out just how hard he is.

Avoiding Mein Host the wraith made for the Ringbearer

His hairy footed chums raced to the rescue

Aragornn meanwhile was busy banishing the other wraiths.

The Pub Landlord raced back to help out

Aragorn dealt with his foe and even without him the Pub Landlord and his hairy footed chums were enough to banish the last servant of Sauron.

Another good game - though I think the wraiths would benefit form someone with a better grasp of the rules than me (a reasonably competent baboon for instance). Feels like there's some secret synergies and power to unlock that utterly passes me by.
Anyway, next stop Weathertop!

  1. Thanks for these game reports! Those are lovely figures. I wanted the TB and Goldberry figures when they came out long ago, I suspect they are OOP. The problem with TomB on the table is how to rate him, as JRRT suggests he is at least the equal of Gandalf.
Also, I really like the barrows, nice little bits of scenery. Cheers, Michael

  2. All the painted models in this report are done by my chum General Ballroom. I supplied the barrows (know your skillset IMO :) )
Tom and Goldberry are still available from the GW online store I think (though probably in Fincast and not cheap...)
I did have a few duplicates of some models so will have a look in the leadpile and see if I have another Tom in there (because I don't need two!)
Statswise the MESBG just makes him impossible tokill but also not really capable of killing, so he just kind of bumbles about banishing the wights. Outside of this scenario I imagine he's not much use
