By way of a warm-up (not a practice game, Gentlemen would never practice) for the Winter Warmer event I'm helping to run, I inveigled Matt into a game using one of the scenarios from the event, where enemy killed by the General count as double points. As a result I had a General on a Chaos Dragon with a Sword of Might - designed to properly "hand it out".
Matt bought over the rather lovely Dark Elves he's been working on for the event.
I managed to video the whole thing.
But I also took some pictures if you're Old School.
I had a Chariot (and Dogs) brigade on my left
General in the centre with a big brigade of Warriors and Marauders, backed up with Harpies.
Knights were over on my right.
The Dark Elves wasted no time in pushing up and catching my Harpies in the open. Ouch.
Over on the right, my knights proved superior to the Cold Ones.
My Chariots had failed to move, blocked by the Harpies.
This was to prove fatal as the Dark Elves dispatched the flyers and then moved on to the immobile Chariots.
On the back foot I tried to stabilise my centre, thought the poor Dragon Ogres were getting shot up and confused.
I had Dark Elf flyers in my rear and charged but couldn't catch them all.
The knights continued to show the Cold Ones who are the best cavalry in the game.
There was a solid looking defended block of Dark Elves atop the hill.
Malekith had pulled his men back to regroup.
And I tried to form a defensive line.
The right was mine, could I capitalise and roll up the hill?
Malekith prepared to strike.
As my General failed to push home on the right.
The Elves crashed home
As the Hydra came to the rescue.
The Warriors were unable to bring their numbers to bear.
The battle reaches its climax.
The Dark Elf infantry leave the safety of the hill to advance on fragile foe, Wellington style.
On my command, unleash a torrent of tiny sharpened bolts!
With the Dragon Ogres dead and the Hydra eating Marauder cavalry, Malekith could apply the coup de grace!
A solid win for the Dark Elves - I had some poor command roles and couldn't force the pace as Chaos needs to do if they are to win.
