Trying to learn the rules some more I got out the 600 point forces for another Battle March game. I used the Renegade Crowns list for the Kislevites.
I decided to try out the first scenario from the Battle March book where Champions from each side meet in a ford before the battle begins proper.
As I was playing solo I used playing cards to randomise the deployment of both sides a little
The rules aren't clear, so I decided both of the champions counted as charging in the first turn,
After a flurry of blows the Griffon Legion champion severed the Orc's head from his shoulders and his corpse bobbed off down the river.
The Kislevites surged forward
And enjoyed the view across the river
In turn the Orcs and Goblins pushed up
Taunts and jeers filled the air above the torrent.
The Orc chariot, unable to hold back p;unged into the water - the GRiffon legion charged into the waters to meet it.
Boarboys splashed across the water and Orcs and Halbardiers met in the ford.
The Orcs Battle Standard Bearer issued a challenge and the champion of the halberd armed Kislevietes answered.
Blows were swung, but the champion stood little chance.
The battle ground on with Kislev being pushed back.
In the waters the Griffon Legion had chopped the chariot to kindling and turned back to support their comrades.
The horse archers were under severe pressure
The charging lancers rode to the rescue
On the far side the Spider riders fled the Winged Lancers
Still the Kislev centre held
The Orc Standard bearer rored out another challenge and the Kislev General answered.
Both were wounded in the tussle but the Orcs broke and fled the combat.
Having cut down the Griffon Legion the Orc general now turned his attention to his rival general
The Orcs were victorious on the Kislev forces cut down.
However the remaining horse archers unleashed their bows.
And the Orc general turned tail and fled.
However as the battle came to an end he rallied and so did his boys.
The final rallies were enough to snatch victory from the forces of the Tzarina!
Waaagh!
Great fun to play through and I'm definitely finidng it a useful way to get a grip of the rules, even if The Old World is really far too fussy a set.
