Over to Casa Scrivs for a game of Sharp Practice.
We are intending to have a campaign at some point but after a hiatus since our last game we settled on another on off. We used Scrivs' 100 Days collection with rules from the TFL 2020 Summer special. I took the Hanoverians and Scrivs the French. We would be playing the Sweep scenario with my hungry Hanoverians in pursuit of French farm animals for sustenance.
Pictures unfortunately a bit crappy from my phone.
With no Frenchies in sight my loyal fellows started appearing straight away
Monsieur Repas-Chaud ambles down the peaceful country lane, unaware he is a target for Hungry, Hungry Hanoverians.
Typically Scrivs rolled a double six both times his Leader 1 card came out meaning Frenchies soon began appearing on the board.
Monsieur R-C ambles right past the lurking skirmishers. Unaware he's about to be in the middle of a firefight.
Wasting no time the forces of Hanover begin deploying into line.
The skirmishers start blazing away at close quarters.
While French line bring up the rear.
Their way blocked the Hanoverian force is, ahem, forced into column.
A pig/donkey already trousered the skirmishers sneak up on their foe and give fire.
It's hotting up in the orchard where, despite the presence of a wall the French are getting much the worse of things.
Largely uncontrolled waves of fire blazing away now - with casualties mounting for the chaps in blue.
One of the Hanoverian skirmisher groups had got a right thirst on, which meant it took some time to get out of range.
At last, a duck pond! Ideal for wetting the whistle! Though Madame Eendenvijer was not too happy.
The main French body came up to help their stricken friends in the orchard.
The Hanoverian line began to take casualties.
Smoke everywhere as the musket balls fly thick and fast.
Bellys full of pond water the skirmishers headed for the French flank.
So the French bought up assistance.
At this point, with neither side significantly damaged night fell (literally as well as metaphorically) and both sides withdrew.
However having captured three lots of food a roll of two meant the Hanoverian forces had secured enough grub to stop their rumbling bellies and gain them a narrow win.
This was good fun, Scrivs collection and table looked lovely and most of Sharp Practice is pretty straightforward.
And yet there was a point in the middle where it just became a rather repetitive dice rolling exercise as both lines simply blazed away. Historically accurate possibly, but not the most engaging game. And that's not the first time I've felt that about SP.
We're going to give a campaign a go though - CoC sometimes felt like that until we started playing linked games so I'm hopeful SP will come in to its own when we do that too.
Superb game
