Chain of Command 2 - a third game

General B. and I continue to work our way at a leisurely pace through the scenarios in the new Chain of Command rulebook.

This time I would be attempting to secure one of two objectives and countdowns would happen and all manner of excitement.

As support I took a 30. cal, a mortar and another bunch of blokes. The table had quite a lot of terrain, including a whacking great chateau type building in the middle - one of the objectives was *in* there - I didn't much fancy my chances of trying to storm that if it was filled with MG42s.

The small town of Lavage d'Avants on a peaceful day, mid June '44

One objective at the crossroads, one in the big building.

First squad starts making its way toward the chateau, screened for now by the high walls.

Germans meanwhile race to the cottage to cover the crossroads.

Bazooka ambush!
The Germans had taken a Wespe - I had not taken any AT capability - this was a pretty desperate roll of an early CoC dice.

But much to my delight, one that came off!

My second squad pushed up on my left putting pressure on the Germans in the cottage overlooking the crossroads.

meanwhile the first squad hugged the wall and worked around the rear of the chateau.

After a lengthy cagey too and fro between both sides an unexpected turn end (3 6s) forced me to remove one of the objectives and start the end of turn countdown. My third squad duly set off at a run toward the objective, hoping the two phases back to back would get me there in time to capture it.

The countdown began!

With their JoPs under threat from the squad working around the chateau Germans began to pour from the building.

I captured the objective but came under a murderous hail of fire.

The Germans in the cottage were taking return fire quite heavily too.

Still a squad lurked behind the cottage.

With he clock ticking down the Germans burst from the cottage hoping to claim the objective, but overwatch fire piled on the shcok, pinning them in place and ensuring victory to the Americans.

A great fun game. Still wrestling with the rules but the scenarios are making things interesting and as long as I remember to keep moving and not get dragged into firefights with MG42s (only one winner there) the Yanks have a fighting chance.
