Reclamation of Khazid Vosk - Game Two

The afternoon session of the excellent Khazid Vosk gaming day was spent playing in one of two huge games. I think there were nine players on each of the two tables - with more Greenskin than Dwarf players (5-4 on each table I think). I was down one end of one table facing off against Tom and his gorgeous Spider army.

Boarboy hordes on the table I *wasn't* playing on.

My Ironbreakers line up

The gloriously coloured spider army

That's the gate of the hold we're attempting to enter I think.

Looking down the table

the Dwarfs stand ready!

It's all kicking off (orange Foot O Gork Template)

Lovely mix of spiders new and old.

The much vaunted Dwarf war machines were again next to useless.

Two Araknorok's is a fine sight.

My allies to the right

Huge mob of classic metal Savage Orcs.

Those Night Gobboes were back (but far away from me this time)

Down the far end of our table the slayers were kicking off

The odds were just the way slayers like them

Trolls, Snorri!

Some great looking armies taking part

This is back to the other table - where the Boarboys seem to have crashed home

I liked this watchtower

Big Dead Giant was nice scenic piece

The fight in full swing

More Slayers seeking death!

Still more on the other table

Back to our game - view from the Goblin side

And back to the front of the Spiders

I shot this one four times with a cannon and failed to hurt it

The Spider horde crashed into the Quarrelers

And the Snotilngs (spider bases) went after the Flame Cannon.

Then annoyingly contacted the Ironbreakers

Throndin made his way to the front to do some clobbering.

All shaping up nicely

I'd been "refused flanked" so my short legged guys were struggling to get involved.

One of the Spiders was so underwhelmed by my challenge he wandered off to kill some other Dwarfs instead.

Slowly my lads tried to catch up.

Th Ironbreakers continued to slaughter Snotlings

As the Spider horde came on

Over on the adjacent board the Orange Arakno was finding a Dwarf general quite chewy...

The cannon was next to fall under the eight legged menace

And the Ironbreakers found themselves flasnked

the orange Spider was bounced through multiple friendly and enemy units during a retreat and emerged, mostly unscathed to fight the Grozznog Clan Longbeards.

As the classic metal Orcs rammed into the Clan

Spider was munching but big axes were chopping off wounds - would the spider survive?

The Clan Dwarfs held

The Ironbreakers had pulled back but were resolute

The spider munched on but the veteran Dwarfs had it down to a final wound.

As the fight at this end of the table hung in the balance the sun set across the battlefield and the game was at a close.

in the end although my force was not too badly damaged the Dwarfs had been overwhelmed and Khazid Vosk was staying green!

Bonus phone pictures:

A really good day's gaming meeting some nice new faces. I much prefer narrative type events like this and the armies all looked great.
The last game did demonstrate that WFB doesn start to fall apart when playing big games - as Tom the organiser realised about half way through, probably better to just let individual tables play at a pace and try and coordinate when models move from one table to the next, otherwise it can be a long wait for some people if one of the parts of the big table is going slowly.
But that was soon overcome and didn't affect the day at all.

Apparently round two is planned for October - Stephen and I are already planning to attend...

Warmaster Campaign Game One: Kislev v Chaos

My first game in the Warmaster campaign was a rematch from the recent Winter Warmer - fighting old Chum Matt and his Chaos.

I tried to film this but the camera is playing up - I'll see what can be salvaged at a later date

I won the scouting I was hoping to hold the woods and ruins with infantry, have my light cavalry run around on interference and then smash some stuff with bears and Winged Lancers.

Horse archers on the flank

More cavalry on the other wing.

The hordes of Chaos

Dragon! Yikes!

The Dragon popped into the graveyard

Chaos, true to form, came racing up.

The Chaos general darted out ahead, I took advantage and landed on him with some horse archers making him pull back. Unfortunately this rather hung the horse out to dry.

I managed some shooting on the big block of Chaos which confused the front rank

More shooting and magic also blunted the Chaos horse

I'd got the wagons set up nicely to dominate the centre.

Unfortunately the hero on my right failed to get the woods occupied.

As a result the Chaos horse caught archers in the open.

This ended as expected for the horse archers.

Meanwhile the Chaos foot assaulted the infantry in the ruins

I was quite confident until more infantry slammed into the flank.

Dragon Ogres too charged home. The General joined them!

Having cleaved through the horse archers the knights were on my flank!

Surprisingly the general and Dragon Ogres bounced! They did take a unit of Horse Archers with them!

It was at this point I noticed the film camera was broken, so after some fettling and swearing we resumed the game but i forgot to take any pictures for a bit.
The Chaos Infantry cleared the ruins, but were in return charged by the bears - who they just about held off.
The Knights pummeling my flank pulled back - which was something fo a let off.
Oh, and I killed the Chaos General.
We hadn't agreed if we were playing "King is Dead!" rules before we began, but as that's the usual default we agreed we were and so with the roll of a seven the Dragon Rider took over in charge.

Meanwhile back in the ruins the bears in turn found themselves charged.

The infantry were now in the woods and causing all manner of command problems for the Knight brigade.

Having killed a unit of Chaos marauders with a flank charge the Horse archers rather unwisely followed up into another unit. Bounced and were in turn charged. - The spawn would be able to follow up.

In the ruins the bears once more went on the offensive - and were blostered by a Wizard turning herself into an Even Bigger Bear!

The Winged Lancers finally crashed home.

I maybe should have tried to maximise charging the spawn for easy break point killing

The Red Guard tried to help things by shooting. With little effect.

Unfortunately the bears bounced off and the knights who had positioned themselves to kill the retreating warriors were in turn charged in the rear!

The Dragon felt unnecessary.

With this combat the Kislev forces reached break point and the field belonged to Chaos!

On the count up of points it was closer than appeared. And a couple of luckier rolls on my side for command may have made all the difference.

I do think Two War Wagons, whilst looking cool is very sub-optimal. Most players will only ever charge a war wagon once - and then in other games simply ignore it.

I've got more Winged Lancers on the painting table now - just need them finished for the next game!
