Warhammer 8th Edition Orcs v Dwarfs

A free Sunday meant Steve and I could play The Best Wargame Ever - Warhammer.
He took Orcs (just Orcs, no filthy gobbos) and I took Dwarfs.

We played the basic battle line, line up and run at each other scenario

Steve had boarboys and a chariot on one flank.

I figured hammerers and longbeards could sort them out

Meanwhile Clansdwarfs and quarrellers would hold the hill on my right.

The Arrer boys immediately failed an animosity test. Irritatingly they ran forward to get in to range.

The firepower on the hill didn't really thin out the onrushing hordes.

The Longbeards prepared to meet the savage Orcs.

Lots of shooting had rather thinned out the hammerers.

The boys crashed in to the clan warriors.

The Savage Orcs failed their charge, so the longbeards took advantage.

The hammerers dealt with the cavalry but all died in the process. Fortunately Lord Throndin was still rampaging about.

Having dealt with the Arrer Boys (who failed their test and fled) he was charged by the crossbows (who had failed their animosity test)

Look, Arrer Boys in full flight.

The Clan Dwarfs were hanging on grimly (as dwarfs like to do) despite the attention of some savages with bows.

Throndin decided to help out the longbeards ( despite their protestations that they were doing fine and didn't need a hand)

And the quarrellers went to help the warriors.

The savage Orcs wiped out the Longbeards before Throndin could get there. So he duffed them up and made them flee.

But he closed in on them.

The Orc warboss escaped the massacre of the warriors and decided to go pick on the Organ gun.

But it was all too little, too late. Throndin murdered the savage Orcs to death and the battle belonged to the Dwarfs!

Warboss Ginganutz was annoyed but powerless.

A great fun game. At first it looked like the Dwarfs would be overwhelmed. But some stubborn defence (do dwarfs do any other kind?) turned the tables. Plus Throndin's unstoppable rampage against the Orc right flank helped immeasurably

Ork Campaign Game Four

This week we were deep in the war torn jungles of Ilkestaaan VII.
The scenario was Spoils of War which involves six objectives, the cards and stuff.
We set up and off we went.

Ginganutz had bought lots of shootin', two buggies and, some Grots!

Gruzzkupp took to the jungle

some Trukkers

and Klankenstein

Lots of Dakka was kicked out by the Bad Moons (more accurately than last week)

Klan Ballruum also took to the herbaceous borders

They had a jet. A new sort of jet.

The mean ol' Bad Moons shot the shiny new jet.

The grotz started making a nuisance of themselves

Another picture of the dakkka.

Ginganutz and his ladz began pushing towards the Ballruum boyz

Then, with a zap of pure Waaagh power the grots were whisked across the battlefield (and into a puddle) to snatch an objective!
The Bad Moons were in the lead.

Warboss Ballruum wasted no time in teaching the puny grots a propa lesson.

Meanwhile the jet whizzed though the skies, spewing ineffectual fire and acting as a huge dakka magnet.

Eventually the Ballruum Boyz mobbed up and raced across the open ground towards the skulking Gruzzkupp mob.

At this point the Ginganutz Mek decided to shoot his Shokk Attack gun at Gruzzkupps mob - and killed 13 of them, rather tipping the odds in Ballruum's favour

The other Ballruum boys rampaged towards the startled bad moons.

And then I forgot to take any more pictures as i was mostly taking off models with a dustpan and brush.

In the end, Klan Ginganutz had done enough for the win, and Gruzzkupp had done sufficiently little to receive the last place award.

It's looking perilous of the map for me at the moment...

Ork Campaign Game Three

A return to Ilkestaaan at the Ilko Gaming Hut.
After the previous game Waaagh Ginganutz had chosen to Probe. Steve loves a good probing. Waaagh Gruzzkup, on the back foot, chose reinforcements and thus the battle would be Roving Patrol.
The table was set up the same as in the previous battle. We placed the objectives, set up and had at it.

Waaagh Ballruum had bought the Battlewagon

The Ginganutz lads ran toward the ruins

Gruzzkupp had trukked up some of his ladz

And bought Klankenstein

Unfortunately Ginganutz had the tools to deal with a Dredd

Ginganutz had the first turn and pushed up, but didn't manage their usual devastating firing.

Ballruum then revved the Battlewagon and headed towards the Bad Moons.
Ginganutz took a dim view of this

And prepared to meet it with a storm of fire.

Meanwhile Gruzzkup got his Nobz out and occupied the buildings in the centre

While his ladz held da jungle

It all then got  bit vehicular. Da Ballruum Battlewagon floored da gas and rammed the Buggery Buggy.

While Gruzzkup's Dirty Trukkers did a drive by on the Bad Moonz.

The Buggery Buggy proved vastly superior to the Battlewagon. Not for the first time we all looked at the points value of this brand new Ork kit.

Da Drive By Trukkerz hosed the ruins clean.

The thing a Buggery Buggy is less good at dealing with is ladz.

The Ballruum footsloggerz began a push toward the ruins.

Gruzzkupp's boys remained in the bushes.

But the Dirty Trukkerz got a bit over excited and raced into the Bad Moon deployment zone in search of victory points.

Their trukk inevitably bit da dust and the ladz got duffed up.

Ginganutz himself decided to help out the Buggery Buggy.

And proved quite handy.

At this point Waross Ballruum suddenly shifted his focus. His ladz poured into the middle of the ruins.

And fell upon Gruzzkupp's 'Magnificent' Seven Nobz.

Te result was inevitable. Gruzzkupp's boyz were no match for the Ballruum numbers and they were wiped out, leaving Ballruum in command of the objective - and the game!

So Ballruum triumphed, Gruzzkupp came second and Ginganutz fell to defeat.
Fortunately Steve hardly mentioned at all throughout the game over and over and over again that he was fighting two armies and it wasn't fair, waah, waah, waah!

Ballruum claimed a Ginganutz territory and Gruzzkupp managed to claim a second from the beleaguered Bad Moons.

Ballruum chose to Advance and Ginganutz hit back with a Flank - so the next game will be Spoils of War - how thrilling.
