Chain of Command 2: Game Four

General Ballroom and I continue our play through of all the scenarios in the book.

In this one I had the Krauts on the run. General B. thought we were due to play a different scenario, so put up a lovely quite densely terrained table - when the scenario actually specifies not too much terrain. But it looked too nice to change, so we went with it.

My objective was somewhere in the village.

View from the German positions.

I pushed up on the left flank as I could see a German JoP not too far away.

Soon my troops were racing forwards.

In the centre, concerned about fire from the buildings I placed troops on overwatch in the woods.

I'd bought a Sherman along to winkle defenders out of buildings.

Inevitable heavily armed Germans appeared.

But my men continued to push up.

More of my troops broke cover.

As the Germans prepared to fire.

The Sherman trundled forward.

Uh-oh. a Stug.

The Sherman drew a bead on the house where my objective (and a lot of Mg42s) lay.

My tropps at the hedgerow had captured a German JoP but were now taking fire.

Suddenly a figure appeared at the edge of the treeline and with a whoosh and a boom, the Sherman was aflame!

Disaster for the Americans, Iron Cross for Willie!

The unsupported infantry were taking heavy fire.

And another squad raced to support.

However with plenty of CoC acquired Oberstleutnant Ballzimmer was able to bring the game to an end with a comprehensive German victory.

A tough game for the Americans and when the Sherman went up the game was pretty much finished.

Great fun though and Chain of Command gives a grand game.

Few more random pics.

Should be playing the next scenario this very afternoon (so expect pictures some time in February...)

Lion Rampant Wars of the Roses

Another quick turnaround for General B. meant another opportunity to squeeze in some more Lion Rampant between our ongoing Chain of Command games.

This happened well over a month ago so details are at best hazy. I think General B was trying to exit men off the board and I was trying to stop him.
Anyway, pictures

A river divided the battlefield and I think some of my forces were delayed.
Anyway the Percy archers pushed up

My cavalry arrived. However with no leader on the broad (and him nowhere near them when he did get there) they played their usual Lion Rampant role of sitting very still and causing regular turnovers.

See, pretty. Your turn, General B.

My light horse cantered off to deal with the advancing foe

And my leader and his Men at Arms arrived as well.

The white clad archers milled around a bit.

My Bidower types pushed forward and proved an ongoing irritant for the forces of General B.

The mounted knights of the enemy were lured in to rough ground and fallen upon by my men at arms.

The light cavalry caught archers in the open.

Finally the knights moved up. Before deciding they very much liked this side of the bridge and handed the initiative to the enemy at several crucial moments.

Fortunately their light brethren were doing sterling work.

Whilst some of my bill had captured the high ground.

My men at arms found a new foe.

After several turn ending turnovers the knights finally trotted forward.

The white clad archers too crossed the bridge.

General B's men were hugging the edge of the battlefield.

But were attacked by my bill.

As the archers closed in for the kill

The enemy general dead, the bill hunted down the remaining archers.

A hard fought victory for my men!

A great game with plenty of to-and-fro and unasked for failures on both sides handing advantage to their opponents.

A few bonus phone pictures.
