Matt kindly agreed to help me to, ahem, Wor-m-Up for Wormaster by bringing his Dark Elves over for a Civil War. The Dark Elves do love a bit of kinstrife.
2,00 points sing the last scenario from the tournament pack where units killed by your general count double victory points.
I videoed the game and here it is:
Now on to the pictures and analogue report:
I began by pushing up on my left flank. Mainly because the commanders on my right were incapable of issuing a succesful order. Once again I had some Chaos Knights as stand ins for Cold Ones.
The enemy likewise pushed forward on that flank.
I soon had Harpies in my rear. This combined with some poor command rolls on my right completely derailed my plans.
The enemy had occupied a field.
But command wasn't exactly favouring them either.
After some jockeying I managed to launch my hydra into the flank of the Cold Ones.
Very much using a sledgehammer on a Harpy shaped walnut I sent loads of troops off to shoot them before managing to charge them with spearmen.
My Cold Ones and hydra unfortunately rather suffered with rubber lances (or possibly rubber regenerating heads) and bounced off the enemy.
Meanwhile the enemy centre held firm.
Their Cold ones had rather suffered too and were somewhat disorganised.
Could I charge home before they could regroup?
Finally something began to move on my right. Unfortunately it was enemy Witch Elves.
I'd cleared out the harpies behind, but it left me way away from the actual fighting.
My General killed off some of the enemy Cold One Knights, but ended up facing an irate Dark Elf General and *his* Cold Ones.
Only one General would survive the ensuing clash.
Clue: It wasn't mine.
My own harpies finally flapped somewhere useful with the aim of reducing enemy command tolls.
Finally my centre and right slowly began to get into line.
Seeing a tempting flank the Dark Riders ran down the Witch Elves. At some cost.
My harpies repositioned to disrupt the centre of the foe.
The Dark Riders, despite murdering Witch Elves had rather overreached themselves.
More witch Elves duly charged into them.
And the opposing General (with a little help from his Orc) managed to turn his cavalry around and run down the harpies.
We called the game there and compared victory points.
It turned out that the death of my general at the hands of his opposite number was the difference - a Dark Elf General on a Manticore is a lot of points anyway, when those points are doubled it'll easily win you the game
Great fun to play and I learned a bit more about the army.
Excellent.
