My first game at Wormaster 5 and I was up against Ross and his Norse. Both armies were clearly a bit lost as we were in the deserts of Araby.
I had my harpies in back behind some big blocks.
Hydra on the flank with the Cold Ones
Ross had his brigades with archers at the front and bondi flanked by Huscarls in column.
Ross seized one of the towns.
I foolishly left a flank of my Dark Riders exposed and Valkyries duly swooped.
With inevitable consequences - they went on to fight crossbows.
Some Werewolves were also in one of the towns.
A solid Norse battle line had formed, while I was struggling to get forward.
Slowly I pushed up in the centre.
I'd had to execute a Hero for blundering by this point.
Eventually the cavalry crashed home.
But Ross had a firm hold on the buildings.
My hydra too eventually made it home (he's reversed to help him rank up)
The Corsairs got pinned and flanked.
My general looked on as things unravelled.
My centre was being battered.
And although I was killing things on the left flank my break point was fast approaching.
And sure enough soon after this it was reached and victory went to the Norse.
Despite me having in theory the more mobile force it was Ross who controlled the game and kept me on the back foot. Losing a hero to a blunder on turn one or two didn't help much either!
Great game with a great opponent.
