Xenos Rampant - Orks v Templars

Matt fancied "a light skirmish something" and I had left out the jungle and the 40K models, so a game of Xenos Rampant seemed to fit the bill.

My mostly Berserker Ork boys were soon swarming around.

Jump Pack Marines stood ready.

As Sword Brethren pushed up.

Da Ladz got ready to rumble.

And were soon pushing up in the centre.

The Marines tried to attack, but the Orks counter-charged!

Marine shooting thinned the Nobs a bit.

Another mob swarmed over the hill.

As boys rumbled through the jungle.

At this point it looked to be the Orks for the taking.

However they had reckoned without Brother Captain Tiktaks who pulled the strings, stealthily concealed in the depths of the jungle (with his huge, glowing, buzzing Thunderhammer)

The Orks did well at first, easily hacking apart the Marine squads, however Marine shooting proved deadly up close and the Orks were ultimately shot down and the Marines claimed the win.

Xenos Rampant VIP

Matt came over with his Space Cacadores and we played the VIP rescue scenario

I took the Orks again.

Matt;s Space Cacadores are fettled from Mantic robot bodies and Wargames Atlantic Grognard heads.

I took the Zapper Gun thingy instead of the Dakka Boys this time as Support Weapons as the unwillingness of Grots to fight makes more sense.

The VIP, lost on a hill.

Matt's lads made good progress toward the hill.

While the Ork boys dawdled.

But a couple of rounds of combat that brutally demonstrated why big units>small units and the VIP was in green hands.

However devastating support fore from the Space Cacadores wiped out her erstwhile saviours.

Fighting continued on the hill.

While more Orks, somewhat unwisely, assaulted a bunker.

And were beaten back.

The lads decided to have another go at the bunker.

The Zapper gun tried to deal with the remaining Cacadore, but he survived!

More of the Brown Suited types crested the hill, hoping to locate the VIP

She was safely being cared for by the Warboss.

And despite the Cacadore throwing everything at him the Warboss was able to sneak away and claim the victory!

Whilst the Orks finally forced their way into the bunker!

A great game that played fast and loose. Nice to see Matt's army on the table.

I told him I'd take some pictures of the troops but somehow managed to get the thers out of focus, so there's just these three (two of which are almost identical.
Sorry Matt.

Xenos Rampant is a good fun little game and scratches the 40K itch without having to actually play (shudder) 40K.

Two Games of Xenos Rampant

Martin came over for some more Xenos Rampant. As a change from the Tangermarines he bought a new force of mostly light infantry. I stuck with the Orks.

We set up for a game where one side has to flee the table and the other stop them. Dicing we discovered I was the runner.

Martin's force are a mix of the Wargames Atlantic plastics

And Stargrave miniatures

The Orks clumped in the centre.

A single unit of Tangermarines were to provide muscle.

Unwisely Martin began by shooting the Ork Lootas. They killed a couple, but Firefight did a devastating seven kills in return and the remaining three green clad men fled the board. Ouch.

The other infantry gulped and headed for cover!

Gruzzkupp meanwhile was marshalling the ladz.

Apart from one lot, who couldn't help themselves.

Safer among the rocks the Starship crew called in a barrage that killed off the Lootas.

But the Boys were getting away.

Although the one unit rapidly chewed through the Tangermarines another devastating Orbital Barrage wiped them out as the Sergeant waved his chainsaw and laughed

However most of the Orks had already fled the board and so I claimed the victory!
A tough scenario for Martin - with most of my force automatically moving 8" each turn it was always going to be tricky to hold enough of them up to get the win. Losing a unit first turn was a less than ideal start.

It was all over quite quickly so we played the Convoy scenario.

The Orks move out.

The green guys, having cleaned up their trousers came back determined to make amends.

The Boys went on the offensive.

The heavy weapon troopers were driven back by the Lootas and the Convoy rumbled on.

The Boys fighting Tangermarines uphill of them found things tougher going and were thrown back and pinned.

But the trukks rumbled on

The Lootas meanwhile started picking on the Green guys once again.

And there was little the lightly armed humans could do to stop the convoy

Another win for the Orks. I think Martin's force needs a bit of tweaking. Something with a bit more punch/durability would help. And light troops in particular are no match for tooled up Berserkers.

Good fun games though. I'm now thinking of dusting off the elder lad's Eldar and giving them a run out.

A few bonus phone pictures:
