For the Warmaster 25 event the 40 or so players were organised into two sides -good and evil. There were a few "neutral" players - Ogres, Dogs of War and the like who were assigned to each side to balance things out. Our glorious leaders, Janners for us good guys and Evil Grey Seer Wint-Wint for the forces of darkness, then assigned us to tables for the games. Many of the tables were themed with lovely scenery and there were a number of doubles games as well as special siege scenarios.
For my first game I was to play doubles with my smaller Kislev force of 1250 points. I was paired with a splendid chap whose name I can't remember - he was Scottish and it began with D, so possibly Donald although it may well have been Duncan. He had a lovely looking Wood Elf army.
Facing us across the table were the redoubtable Palmier family, Rob and his son Adam - both formidable Warmaster players who I've fought (and lost to) several times in the past. Rob had a lovely Slaanesh Daemon army that it transpired had been painted by my Wood Elf ally. Adam had Vampire Counts.
The table was Orc and Goblin themed, with mushroom forests and Orc huts littering the board.
As is the way of many doubles games we effectively ended up playing two parallel singles games and my Kislevites faced down Rob's Daemons.
The hordes soon occupied a village.
My horse archers were soon in combat
This is not how you should use light cavalry.
I did manage the odd flank charge
The war wagon took it's time trundling up the hill
Mu ally had at least secured one objective
But was finding the undead hordes tough going
And their Daemon allies were also hard to shift
Seekers were galloping hither and yon.
And, wisely, avoiding the wagon.
More of my light cavalry were caught in the open.
And Daemons were running amock
At least the bears got to fight!
Desperation saw the light cavalry charging more Daemons
As the servants of Slaanesh began to mop up.
A couple of random phone pictures:
In the end a reasonably comfortable victory for the forces of evil. My Ally held up his end of the bargain but I fear the Kislevites rather let him down.
I'm still coming to grips with how the army works and against a goof player like Rob that's always going to end badly.
