3K of 40K Orks v Templars

Despite the blazing sunshine without the Gaming Heir declared himself in need of a big game of 40k.
Totaling up everything he owns comes to around 3K points.
Desperate padding and some last minute spraying managed to scrape me together about 2600 points of Orks.
Close enough.

Here's the pics.

The warboss goes to work onn the rhino

We discovered that 3K point games take a looooong time to play.
I also discovered that rolling more than sixty dice to kill two men is pretty tedious.

The Templars won.

It was a good way to spend a few hours, but I think in future we'll stick to the 650-1000 point mark.

Perry Scots Grey Horses (WiP)

Some work in progress on Perry Scots Greys.

Not exactly "Lady Butler" this shot.

I've actually got six to this stage now.
Next stop is back up to the loft to try and locate their riders.

Frostgrave Barbarian

Another Frostgrave model finished off.
When the Gaming Heir and I were in full swing around Christmas time I started painting up one of each of the specialists. Most I fettled from the plastic sprue but for a Barbarian I had to go rooting around in the loft to locate a box of the old plastics from the Warhammer Quest game.

A splendid model. The limitations of the tech of the time are a bit obvious (there's some undercuts and indistinct bits around the sides) but it looks great. Like a Barbarian should. He is also massive, taller by a bit than the rest of the Frostrgave models. But that's OK.
I'm not sure I'll ever use a Barbarian in the game, but now I've got one ready for whenever the urge takes me.

Frostgrave Treasure Hunter

This chap has sat half- finished on the painting table for quite some time.
Since the last Frostgrave session with the Gaming Heir.
His mind has now wandered off to 40K (like a butterfly, can't think where he gets it from) and so Frostgrave has gone back into storage.
But I do like the models, so for a change of pace (an ironic one given the balmy conditions we've experienced this weekend) I grabbed him and finished him off.

The blue of the clothing appears to have played havoc with my white balance on these and bleached out the white and yellow somewhat.

Made from the plastic sprue. The idea is a lift from the official models painted by Kev Dallimore.

WAB Saxons against Irish (Age of Arthur)

After a lengthy sojourn in Worcester Stephen returned to the fold of the Sherwood Hucknall Ilkeston Team and we decided to play WAB.
Steve bought his Irish, I bought Saxons (with some Romano British allies) and General Ballroom provided room and beer.
General B took command of the Saxon forces with me advising

The Saxons began by surging forward. Steve used the slingers to machine gun the gedrith and the promptly failed a break test and ran away a bit.

Everything else kept pushing up

Eventually the Saxons charged.

However the Irish held, and with their initial thrust blunted the ranks of the Irish began to tell and a break led to widespread panic and much running away.

Finally the remains of the gedrith ploughed home.

But promptly copped some Fianna in the flank

The mounted Duguth made hard work of killing some slingers.

The gedrith ground on but were losing the battle of attrition.

The rallied Duguth were surrounded and duffed up.

And with that the game came to an end with Irishmen triumphant.

A good game and it looked splendid. WAB's a bit clunky these days, but generally gives a pretty good game. Feel like painting a few more dark Age men now...

Black Templar Devastator Centurion

The Gaming Heir has had these models for a while.
He never wants to paint anything and I've not felt the urge to tackle these - they looked quite fiddly.
But I fancied a change and so grabbed one and slapped some colour on.

Pretty pleased with the result.
And actually not too bad to paint in the end.
Still think the pose is a bit stiff and lacking in dynamism.

Here's another slightly different angle.

The GH seems pretty pleased. Though I'm now under pressure to do the other two.

Four more rifles

Enough of the Perry plastic Napoleonic riflemen to add to the two from last week to complete a small unit of the 5/60th for Black Powder or Sharp Practice.

The leaning forward ones are dashed hard to take pictures of.
