Midgard: Battle of Lewes 1264

James is staging a large Battle of Lews game at partizan in a couple of weeks. So we playtested the scenario using a much reduced pair of forces as a bit of a warm up. The majority of the models are from chum Paul's collection you can see many examples over on his Scrivsland Blog

The armies assemble with the rebel Barons up on the hill

The Royalist cavalry with Edward at their head.

De Montfort deployed in reserve.

The intitial cavalry charge on the left saw the London skirmishers driven back, but Seagrave rallied the men and led a charge that threw back some of the knights.

Edward forged his way through

In the centre the Barons counterattacked

Father fought son and the blood flowed.

The royal army found the hill a tough barrier

Duels were fought and several Royal leaders wounded or captured.

De Montfort watched on

Before finally committing to counter the King's assault.

The knights easily forced back the crosbowmen

Emboldened the King joined the combat

Sadly, in the ensuing combat the draded "Double Raven" result saw the king pulled from his horse and captured by the Barons.

A great fight that went down to the wire. Were it not for the King being captured with the final roll of the dice it would have been a draw with both sides having no reputation remaining.

Looking forward to helping out with the much larger version at Partizan in a few weeks time.

  1. Colourful and dynamic. It's always a pleasure to see a period I've no intention of collecting. Someone else has put in the hard yards and i get to enjoy the spectacle. You'd have to be immortal and patient to do every period.
