Warmaster Campaign: Kislev v High Elves

After some delays I made it over to Alan's house for the next campaign game. Alan had already inflicted a massacre in game one against Andy, so I wasn't expecting an easy ride. I had however painted up three new units so was able to make some twekas to my list - I dropped the bears and one of the War Wagons to allow me to take two more units of winged lancers and the Red Guard.

We were playing in Alan's newly laid out gaming room using one of the scenery sets Andy purchased to use in the Warmaster events we organise (Summer Sizzler 26 details coming soon).

Alan had taken the Scouts bonus from the campaign pack meaning I had to set up first and then he had choice of whether to go first or second.

We were playing one of the scenarios from the Winter Warmer rulespack - where you need to grab objectives. I planned to park a War Wagon right next to one of them.

I had a big brigade of winged lancers.

The field of war

Alan's very nice High Elf army

And more

He had not one...

but two dragons - filth!

The calm before the storm

I pushed up, but not too far - hindered by a few poor rolls.

The Wagon finished short of its intended target

The infantry had secured the central wood

The elves waited.

I had a large block of horse archers lurking too

The elves pushed up steadily

A mass of cavalry and chariots on my left

One dragon out in front

The other lurked near a field.

the Elves had also secured a wooded area

Seizing a chance I launched the winged lancers into the Elf cavalry

I took some of them down but the presence of the dragon made it a somewhat Pyrrhic victory

And my cavalry were very isolated

Alan wasted no time in dealing with the remains

the horse archers failed to charge into some other cavalry and instead awaited the inevitable counter

The battlefield at the end of my second turn

The Elves laid into the Kislev horse

And caught the horse archers too

Dragons everywhere!

See, another one!

The horse archers did not fare well

On the other end of the line more Winged lancers took on the elf spear.

Everything was becoming fractured

The War Wagon had at least secured one objective

Dragon excess!

The Kislev dead pile had reached breakpoint

The field belonged to the High Elves

Cracking game and closer than it may have seemed. I struggled to finish off some weakened High Elf units and the Kislev army, with no terror causing creatures of its own really struggles against terror.

Some additional phone pictures:

Great fun game - though I am now 2 and 0 in the campaign - and Alan, with another big win is running away with things.
