Tlingit against Russians - Muskets and Tomahawks

After several loooong months of no face to face gaming (this post suggests the last time was at the start of October seven months ago!) lockdown eased enough for James and I to get the toys out.

Well, technically James got the toys out all I did was turn up and roll the dice.

James has been collecting Tlingit warriors - a fierce First Nations tribe that terrorised much of the Northwestern coast of North America and came into conflict with Russian settlers. They're a fantastical looking bunch, sporting intricately carved wooden armour.

The scenario we played was one James wrote for Wargames illustrated - the Tlingit surprise a campsite occupied by Alexander Baranov the Governor of Russian America with some of his men and thier Aleut allies.

The Tingit come ashore from their canoes.

The fearsome leaders of the Native Americans.

Bleary eyed Russians rouse from their tents

The Tlinigt war chief urges his wooden clad warriors on

Under cover of darkness the Tlingit advance on the camp

Alerted the Russians emerge from their tents

As the Tlingit break from the tree line

The dozing sentries snap to life

But the Tlingit open fire before they can react

***A hiatus when I forgot to take pictures***

We rejoin the battle as Tlingit massacre a lone, shaken Russian

Baranov finds himself in a swirling combat

The red Tlingit leader urges his men on in search of captives

Tlingit are everywhere at the defences

Still struggling to wakefulness the Russians give fire

But it does them little good

Laden with captives the Tlingit begin to make their escape

Pausing briefly to try and murder some Aleut

Spotting Baranov trying to make it to the safety of his ship the Tlingit close in

And despite his mail shirt the Russian is knocked to the floor

And with that the Tlingit head back to see with their captives

Lovely looking game and M&T played pretty well - lockdown Zoom games mean we understand the rules fairly well.

James' collection is great - hopefully one day we'll get to play a version of the Battle of Sitka

  1. That's pretty neat. I'd love to do something similar, but with greeks vs. gauls ;)
